Khirapat is also called as Panchakhadya. Khirapat is very known Prasad for Ganapati festival as we prepare it on first day and it will last till visarjan. We give Khirapat to everybody whoever is there on Riverside for visarjan.

In childhood, we all like khirapat because of its sweetness. We don't even wait to complete Aarti and eat it so fast. It is a mixture of food things which starts from 'kha' like Khobra (coconut),Khas Khas(poppy seeds),Khadi sakhar(rock sugar),Kharik(dry dates), khismis(raisins).

We make fried modak using tis Khirapat as inside mixture. They taste lovely. Generally first day , we make 21 modak for ganapati and many more for family members.10 days are just like eating modak and khirapat.

Khirapat | Panchkhadya

1 cup grated dry coconut Or Desiccated coconut
1 tbsp Poppy seeds
1/2 cup Rock sugar
1/4 tsp. cardamom powder
15-20 Dried dates
15-20 Almonds
5-6 saffron strands

1.Remove seeds from dry dates. Grind to fine powder.


2.Make a powder of Almonds also.


3.Dry roast dry dates powder and Almond powder separately just for 2-3 minutes on slow flames till it releases it flavor. Do not roast longer else they will get burn.


4.Similarly, dry roast poppy seeds for 1-2 minutes.


5.Dry roast desiccated coconut on pan for 3-4 minutes till it changes to golden color.


6.Mix all these along with rock sugar and grind them in mixer till coarse powder.


7.Dry roast little saffron strands and crush it in Khirapat mixture.
