Kerry and Gary’s September Wedding in the Ladies’ Pavilion

Kerry and Gary got married in the Ladies’ Pavilion in September.  They brought ten of their close friends and family over with them to New York from their home in England.  Kerry is 57 and Gary is 54.

They had been together for five and a half years when they got married.  A mutual friend introduced them.  Gary proposed to Kerry at the top of the Empire State Building in November 2018.  That was Kerry’s first visit to New York.  They loved the city so decided to get married in NYC too!  They had originally wanted to get married in February, but that didn’t work out for them.  I think they saw much better weather in September than they would have in February!

They did briefly consider getting married in England, but Kerry told me that they only looked at one venue.  Shortly after that she had the idea that they get married in New York.  “That was that then – no competition!” she said.  They wanted to get married for things to be official.  Kerry feels that a small wedding can make things much simpler.  “Families can be very confusing these days – ie partners, kids, parents splitting up and so on.  It can be hard to choose who to invite,” she said.

Kerry and Gary stayed in New York for five nights before going on to Las Vegas for five nights for their honeymoon.  While they were in New York they stayed in the Double Tree by Hilton in Times Square, which they said was nice and central.

It had rained the morning of their wedding day, and they get married in the mid afternoon.  Kerry said that she though the rain had kept the park fairly free of people, so it was nice for them to have a quiet Central Park.  The groom and guests met the officiant at the Ladies’ Pavilion, and the bride nd her son met our photographer Jakub Redziniak at the entrance to the park and walked in with him.  “I love all the photos!” said Kerry.

Kerry’s son Dan gave her away, the officiant did a short introduction with a brief summary of their relationship to date, followed by traditional vows and then the ring exchange.  After that, their photographer walked the group down beside the Lake for photos at Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace.  The sun came out for them a little that afternoon!

Their guests were Kerry’s two children and their partners, her two grandchildren, Gary’s sister, his best friend and his wife and a close friend of Kerry’s.  “Everyone who came with us was very excited about the wedding being in Central Park as only two guests had been to New York before,” Kerry told me.

On the morning of the wedding, Kerry hung out with her daughter, granddaughter and her maid of honor.  Gary hung out with the male guests.  Kerry bought some flowers from a local shop and made the bouquets and buttonholes herself, and they did their own hair and makeup.

Kerry said that they would love to do it all again.  “The service from Wed in Central Park was excellent and there were no hiccups at all,” she said.  “It was all very professional and well done.  Thank you Claire and everyone else involved in making our day special and memorable,” she added.  Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, Kerry and Gary!  I wish you both the best of luck for your future together!  If you would like me to help you with planning your own Central Park wedding or elopement, whether you’re from near or far, visit our website.  Keep updated with our news and see lots of beautiful photos, “like” us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram and follow us on Pinterest.
