Kat Von D 'Synergy' Metal Crush Eyeshadow Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema
Kat Von D gave the beauty world two wonderful gifts over the last month: new shades of her Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and the new Metal Crush Eyeshadows.  It took me a minute to decide which shade to get, but I ultimately decided with Synergy. I am such a sucker for bronze shadows. It is actually quite ridiculous. I need to branch out.

Anyways, it took no time for these shadows to gather rave reviews. And I can see why. This eyeshadow has a unique formula thanks to a unique attribute called Color Soaked Concentrate, which involves a specific kind of tumbling of the pigment.
Synergy is a stunning metallic bronze. It honestly was not as metallic as I expected, but the finish is still gorgeous.  It is definitely one of the more tame shadows of this line.

The texture of this eyeshadow is amazing. It is probably one of the softest, smoothest eyeshadows I have used. It is very much like a pressed pigment. In a way, it almost feels bouncy and sponge like. It glides right on with absolutely no issues and blends out easily.  The pigment is great, but there is one minor issue.  The pigment is great when packed on or swatched, but we all know that a good eyeshadow look requires blending. Well, when blended out, this shade loses some of the shine and intensity. It still looks beautiful, though. This has become a go to for me. I love wearing it alone with just a brow highlight. It is simple and quick, but still looks nice. Of course today my blending looks like crap because I feel like crap. But I just wanted to give an idea of what the shade looks like on the eye.

I have also been trying out the Catrice Lash Fibers. If my lashes look like I have applied an entire tube of Maybelline's Colossal Chaotic Mascara, that would be why. I am still figuring out the best ways to use it. And right now, it is a little scary.
Despite the crazy soft and buttery texture, I haven't experienced any major fall out.  The only time I have is the result of quick and sloppy application. Even then there was not a lot of fall out. This shadow also stays on me all day. I have had no issues with fading or creasing.

I love the packaging, too. Even though I am a sap for luxurious and elaborate detail, I also love and appreciate more simple detail. These eyeshadows come in a matte black, flip top, round container.  The top is clear and Kat's initials are etched on with silver ink. It feels pretty sturdy, so there should not be any issues traveling with it.
The price may seem a bit steep ($21) for a single shadow, but those are huge compared to the majority of eyeshadows. You get .10 oz, or 2.8g.  Makeup Forever eyeshadows are a little smaller at 0.7 oz, and cost the same.
I think these shadows are worth trying out. They have an amazing formula and the pigment is stunning.
In other beauty news, I just got my ColourPop Strobing Kit and 3 of the Ultra Matte Lips! Be on the look for my posts about them.
