A Kansas City Chiefs player died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday morning at the team's training facility, Kansas City Police Communications Supervisor Kathy Childs said.
The shooting occurred at 7:50 a.m. local time at the team's facility near Arrowhead Stadium, Childs said. She said police know the name of the player, but declined to release his name since the shooting was still under investigation.
Police also said another shooting off-site was linked to the shooting.
The Chiefs have released a statement in regard to the incident:
"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
The Chiefs are scheduled to play host to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend this morning and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself in the parking lot, according to multiple reports.
The first shooting occurred at a residence in the 5400 block of Crisler just a few blocks from Arrowhead. Belcher, 25, then drove to the stadium where he was engaged by at least one Chiefs coach who tried to talk him out of committing suicide. Belcher was from West Babylon, NY and was in his fourth year with the Chiefs. Belcher started 10 games this year and played in all 11. I wonder what spurred all that?
Hard to hear something like this. What's going to happen to their daughter? My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family
I was pretty shocked when I read this. Something had to have motivated him from the organization for him to do that in front of the HC and GM. The Chiefs organization is run like some secretive KGB operation with Scott Pioli in charge there. That organization made Todd Haley a schizo. Something motivated him to commit suicide in front of those guys.
Just a sickening affair to see someone commit murder/suicide

( I apologize in advance for anyone who has had someone they know commit suicide). I feel bad for the family that he selfishly left behind. I heard he killed his girlfriend first, which in that case, I really don't feel bad for him. He was a murderer. I do want to know why it was in front of the Chiefs organization. I'm right there with you 110%.
I feel bad for the family members of the murder victim and the kid he left behind, but I have zero sympathy for him - he murdered the girl in front of her own mother. The smartest decision he made this morning was plugging himself and saving the taxpayers the money.
With a bit of luck the 3 month girl will be adopted and never find out about her parents fate.
Cleveland Browns groundskeeper commits suicide
A Cleveland Browns employee was found dead of apparent hanging in a maintenance shed at the team's practice facility Saturday, a Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner spokesman told NFL.com.
The Browns confirmed Sunday that assistant groundskeeper Eric Eucker had died.
"This is a terrible tragedy, and our heartfelt condolences go out to Eric's family," the Browns said in a statement obtained by NFL.com reporter Albert Breer. "Eric was a good friend and colleague, and an outstanding employee. He will be missed by everyone in the Cleveland Browns organization."
The Browns are in Oakland this weekend to face the Raiders. We send our thoughts and condolences to everyone affected in the Browns family.
Bizarre coincidence
