June Song 3: "No Puedo Pensar" by Melenas

By Ventipop @ventipop

Meet Melenas! Spanish group Melenas have released one of my favorite records of the year titled Dias Raros (Strange Days). Melenas is a band from Pamplona, a small town in Northern Spain. The group includes Oihana Herrera, María del Amor Zubiaur, Leire Zabala, and Laura Torre. Driving guitar rifts make for a catchy, beachy style that sounds a bit like a garage band,The Beach Boys and shoegaze had a baby. The album is strong from beginning to end and I've been listening to it on repeat for about a month even though I speak not a word of Spanish. Except maybe, En Fuego. "No puedo pensar" is just one of the standout 11 tracks.

Biography: Melenas from Pamplona, Spain are an all female garage pop group formed by Oihana (guitar, keyboard and vocals), Leire (bass and vocals), María (keyboard) and Laura (drums). Their self titled debut album (El Nébula Recordings / Elsa Records / Snap! Clap! Club) will make fans of The Feelies and classic C86 bands fall for their shimmering guitars, sweet melodies and driving rhythms. Melenas add also a touch of sun kissed, soft focus psych to their sound. Since the release of their debut album the band ripped up festival stages including SXSW 2018 and 2019, Primavera Sound, FIB Benicassim, Bilbao BBK Live, Eurosonic (Groningen) as well as Freakender and Indietracks (UK), gaining new fans at an alarming rate.Their second album is due on May 8th via Trouble In Mind Records (and Snap Clap Club/Elsa Records in Spain).
