July Song 12: "Paris" by Kay Greyson

By Ventipop @ventipop

Song of the Day

Rapping and performing since she was a teenager, 22 year-old Kay Greyson has gained a reputation in Newcastle as the hardest working artist there is. Period.

Her sound fuses the flair and style of modern hip-hop with the skill and sensibilities of the golden era, hitting with the vibe ofLil Uzi Vert and the substance of Mos Def. Having already supported hiphop legends like The Game, KRS One, DJ Yella and Akala, Kay continues to create her own legend.

In 2019 the Bajan-Geordie raised the bar once again, performing at Newcastle Eagle's half-time show to open their new stadium, as well as Team GB's half-time show during a FIBA tournament. Kay's exuberant live performances, including one at The Royal Albert Hall for the MYF Youth Proms, another at BBC Introducing Live in London, a packed out performance at Hit The North music festival and a string of top-drawer singles earned her the award of Newcomer of the Year at the 2019 Journal Culture Awards.

Kay has kept the forward momentum rolling into 2020, selling out her first headline show at Bobiks, Newcastle. The rapper is in studio mode right now, working on a brand new EP to be released in July. 2020 is set to be Kay's best year yet; her ambition, drive and natural skill won't allow anything less, despite the pandemic!
