Now that I finally have a proper keyboard to type on, here’s a longer and more detailed post on my trip to Jeju Island’s Teddy Bear Museum. My first post was just a simple peekture.
We took a cab to the Teddy Bear Museum – if you can’t speak Korean, the taxi driver should be able to understand you if you enunciate it slowly in Konglish style – say Tey-dee Bay-oh Myu-jee-ohm.
The cabby and his hand-drawn map of Jeju Island, which is pretty damn simple and accurate. The triangle in the center represents Mount Halla (which is a gigantic huge-assed shield volcano, not a mountain). But don’t worry, it hasn’t erupted since 1002 and 1007.
The 2 black lines and 2 red lines around it (making it seem like the pupil of an eye) are simplified mountain roads around Mount Hall. Note – the roads are so squiggly and wriggly in real life that I strongly suggest you take motion sickness pills before going on them. Most people have to take these mountain routes to get from the Jeju Airport (near point 2) to Seogwipo (points 6, 7, 8 etc).
Formula One should seriously consider taking their drivers here; or rather, Jeju drivers should consider joining the Formula One – they drive so crazily around the sudden curves and turns, up and down hill. Like WOAH.
Alighting from the taxi – the first thing we see is a Ripley’s Believe It or Not. But nahhh that’s not what I’m here for.
Dees is vhut we are here for – the Teddy Bear Museum! Forgive my shitty, crappy, fashion-policeable outfit. I didn’t bring enough clothes to prep against the crazy Jeju winds, and had to pile on layers of singlets and cardigans to make do. If you’re coming here, remember to bring a nice warm wind-proof jacket!

After buying our tickets, we head downstairs. The galleries are located on levels basement 1 and basement 2. Most of the exhibits are housed in glass cases that reflect every damn thing.
This looks strangely like a cross-dressing Snow White and the 7 Dwarves from the LOTR trilogy.

My pal Jasmine (who usually towers over me at 1.7m) and a giant bear. This was taken near the Museum Shop, but no photography was allowed instore.
Moving on to the next gallery – Mona Lisa Bear. Taking photos of this was a majorly tough job – I kept capturing my own reflection.

… and I thought this museum was supposed to be child-friendly. Oh well, they have to learn about the birds and the bees sometime soon. Not sure how the parents will explain the boobs, ribs and 5-toed feet to the children though…
You may call this the Thinker Bear, but I’m calling this the Kim Jong Kook Sparta Bear. Check out those biceps!

Now this is my beat – the fashion zone with a teddy bear fashion show with lights and musicccc. The bears are even fixed to a rotating belt, so it seems like they’re “walking” a fashion show.

Obviously, these aren’t all the exhibits – I was just too busy looking through my eyes instead of through my camera. It’s not a bad place to visit if you need some time to rest and relax.

How to get there
From Seoul to Jeju-do
- Gimpo Airport (subway line No.5 Gimpo Airport station)
- Take Incheon Airport limousine (Contact No- +82-1577-2600: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese)
From Jeju-do
- Take an airport limousine No.600
- Get off at Yeomiji Botanical Garden in Jungmun sightseeing complex. (15 minute interval, 50 minute ride), then walk for 5 min.
