Jack Fruit And Potato Curry

Jack fruit curry is one of my favorite and we especially make this curry in Holi a festival of colors. Jack Fruit or Kathal is Cooked with Potatoes in a spicy Gravy. This is a spicy dish and tastes great even with simple boiled rice. My mother makes delicious jack fruit curry and I have tried to learn from her.This is a really special dish for me as it brings back my childhood memories of holi celebrated at my home.

Prep time: 45 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients: -

  • 500 gm Green Raw Jack fruit
  • 2 Large Potato Boiled
  • 2 Large Onion Chopped
  • 2 Large Tomato Chopped
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 Dried Red Chili
  • 4-5 Cloves
  • 2-3 Green Cardamom
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds/Jeera
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil
  • Salt
  • Water

 Method :-

  • Heat Oil in a kadai add jeera and let it splutter then add red chilies, bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves.
  • Add onions and fry till it becomes transparent then add ginger garlic paste and chopped tomatoes and let it fry a little.
  • when the onions and ginger garlic paste starts to chance color add coriander powder.
  • Fry the masala and add the jack fruit.
  • Fry till jack fruit changes to light brown.
  • Add the chopped boiled potatoes and mix well.
  • Fry all the ingredients till jack fruits becomes a little tender.
  • Add water and cook covered till done or you can use pressure cooker to save time and gas.
  • Serve with puri, rice or roti.
