Steps to update your Apple Device to iOS 10

Once you’re sorted with the eligibility of your device, you should follow the below steps top update your device to iOS 10:

Backup your Data

Before you initiate any update or anything major with your device, you must ensure that you have taken a proper backup of your device. You can backup your device data on iCloud as a quick solution or you can take a backup on your system, either ways it is better to be safe than sorry !

Clean up Your Device

Because of regular usage, one tends to install a lot of apps that normally we do not use. It is a good idea to uninstall those applications and free up some space. While iOS 10 may not be taking up so much space on your device but getting rid of apps that you no longer use is always makes sense, isn’t it.

If you’re on iOS 9 or above you do not need to delete apps to upgrade your device, as the operating system can handle clearing space automatically.

However, if you are on a previous version of iOS and are cramped for space on your device then deleting apps, downloaded files like songs, videos etc makes sense. You can also move your photos and videos etc to iCloud.

Remember your Passwords

It’s a thumb rule, Always keep passwords that only you remember. Remembering your password is as important as backing up your data. You’ll need to enter your iCloud password post upgrade, to be able to reconnect to all your data and photos. The invaluable data will be rendered useless if you forget your password. So remembering your password is a must.

To Wipe or Not, Is the Question

Although most of the manuals suggest that you can upgrade the device directly. The entire process is just very easy and quick to complete. However, in case you have enough patience, would suggest you wipe the device and update from scratch. You’ll face much lesser connectivity issues, however, reinstalling apps takes a lot of effort hence, weigh your options before you do that.

Also, who does not like hitting that “update now” button and check out the latest OS. If you can wait, however, just a for a few days  we suggest that you should wait for a few days after a major upgrade has been released. Some unknown bugs can crop up which may take some time to be rectified.
