Installing Nam June Paik: 4 Days in 3 Minutes

By Americanart

Nam June Paik: Global Visionary opens next week on December 13, 2012. The exhibition features key artworks from Paik's career that demonstrate the complexity of his ideas as well as his groundbreaking approach to technology and video. Also in the exhibition are selected objects and papers from the Nam June Paik Archive, which the American Art Museum acquired back in 2009. The entire Archive filled seven large trucks and includes a wide variety of items from televisions, radios and robots, to toys, artworks and correspondence. These objects provide a fascinating window into Paik's career, giving insight into his creative process and the issues he cared about.

This time-lapse video shows the installation of the "Archive Wall" in the exhibition, which took over four days and many staff members. The finished display will include touch-screen kiosks, on which visitors can browse the objects on the wall and discover more about this innovative and intriguing artist. Check out our Flickr set for more photographs from behind-the-scenes of this installation.
