Inspiring Workspace

By Linsibrownson @CleverSpark

A lot has been happening ’round Spark HQ lately – a big change is that we will soon be moving from a home office to an office office and I need to decorate!

I have long been touting the home office as the dream work sitch – and I’m not eating my words just yet.

Truth be told, I will probably still be working most of my days from home…and when we finally buy a house (fingers still crossed for 2013) I will no doubt be salivating over my Pinterest Home Office <3 board once again.

But for now, I just gotta get out of here!

There is a lot to be said for an inspiring workspace, even if your job isn’t a creative one, because when you pause a moment and look around you will either be energized or drained.

And lately (because both me and hubs have been crazy busy) all I see is a pile of schtuff, floating fur balls and two doe-eyed dogs who desperately want my attention.

It is. Not. Energizing.

Another big motivator is that we’re expanding our local team soon.  All my collabs work remotely, so I’ve only ever had myself and maybe one other person to make space for.  But we’re adding 3 newbies over the next couple months and, well, they ain’t coming to my house (not in this state anyway, sheesh!).

So off we go, into the next phase of Spark Collaborative and that brings me back to – what should I do with my blank canvas?

I WILL be buying my furniture secondhand, and maybe a few things from IKEA.  But I WILL NOT be using fugliness like this {shudder}

Ummm, yeah, that’s a jewel case holder built in. Sweet…

And the office is pretty tiny, so my spaceplanning skills will be put to good use.  But we don’t need much, just bright and fresh and happy decor plus enough surface area for 3 laptops  (maybe 4) and a printer.

With a few weeks left until the move, I’m starting with the fun stuff.  Inspiration.

I’m thinking our white walls and loads of natural light will be easy to work with – keeping the decor simple with black and white surfaces and pops of color in the chairs and accessories.  Like so…

What do you think?  Do you find bright color refreshing or distracting?
