PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A kitten and his litter-mates have gone from near death to one of the hottest trending pages on Facebook in a matter of days.

Meet Sir Stuffington, a tiny cat who has overcome a lot of obstacles. He was living on the street before being taken to the Multnomah County Animdal Services shelter six days ago. Stuffington was suffering from a bad case of fleas and had some trauma to his right eye, both of which were treated by staff at the shelter.

Blazer Schaffer, a foster caregiver, took Stuffington and his two brothers in. “He  is a cat with a strong desire to live,” Schaffer said. “He’s a fighter.”

Stuffington has his own Facebook page with more than 20,000 Facebook followers in less than a week.

Stuffington’s is a case where animal control can help young or injured animals.

“He is a great save and he’s a great ambassador for getting the message out that shelters do save lives,” said Roberta Ruble with Multnomah County Animal Services. “Fosters do make a difference. And that’s what we’re about is saving lives.”

Photos of the one-eyed kitten, professionally shot by Amy Who Photography, are being sold to raise funds for Sir Stuffington’s medical care and for other animals in need at the Multnomah County Animal Services shelter. As of Sunday afternoon the effort had raised $600.

Meanwhile Sir Stuffington and his litter-mates are well on their way to recovery.

“He was playing and purring and doing all the things a normal kitten do,” Schaffer told KOIN 6 News Sunday. She said he still has to heal the ulcers in his mouth, which will require a life-long commitment.

His brothers are Dexter and Nugget. “His brothers are stronger,” Schaffer said. “But they are all doing well.”

Now Sir Stuffington is expected to live as normal a life as a one-eyed cat with ulcers can have.
