Posted on the 11 June 2016 by Jyoti Arora @Jy0tiAr0ra

Having a microwave oven is no longer a rare thing in urban Indian kitchens. However, seeing that microwave being used for anything more than heating things and boiling potatoes and rice is still rare in Indian households. Most of us just don't know how to cook our oil soaked Indian dishes in microwave.

To break through this mindset, LG has been showcasing microwave cooking through television shows like Mallika - E - Kitchen. However, most Indian housewives still hesitate to try cooking Indian dishes in microwave.

To break this barrier, LG has now launched a new range of microwaves that come with 365 auto cook menus just for Indian food. Not just that, these microwaves can even make different kinds of roti, parantha and even dosa. They can also be used to make curd, cottage cheese and even ghee. In short, these microwaves make Indian cooking hassle free.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Rajiv Jain, Business head, Home appliances LG said, "LG is Market leader in Home Appliances and our offerings are an ideal investment for customers. The all-in-one microwave is a must-have appliance for people who like to experiment with food and make a variety of dishes keeping in mind the convenience it offers. This product is developed based on unique Indian Insights and I am sure it will definitely change people perception about cooking in a microwave."

Let's check out the features of LG All-in-One microwaves and see how users can make Indian dishes in microwave:

Indian Insight Program: LG's new All-in-One microwave ovens have been designed under LG's India Insight Program. This program seeks to develop products especially for Indian market based upon what Indian consumer wants or needs. And so, the All-in-One microwaves have been designed to meet the cooking needs of Indians by incorporating auto cook menus not just for various Indian dishes but also for making ghee, curd, cottage cheese and even roti, parantha and dosa. Yes, all this can be made in a microwave and far more easily than the conventional ways. For example, when you make desi ghee in this microwave, it removes the hassle of keeping watch over the ghee and continuously stirring. Also, the smell of the ghee being made does not pervade all over the house.

365 Auto Cook Menus: The new range of LG microwave ovens come with 365 auto cook menus. The benefit of the auto cook menus is that they make it very easy for users to cook various dishes on microwave. Just select the menu of the dish you want to cook and the microwave will keep on giving timely indications about what you are to do next. The auto cook menus can be selected easily and range from Indian, Continental, Sweets & Kids Delight.

Indian Roti Basket: India is a hot country and summers at most places in India are excessive. In summer months, making rotis is really a pain as it means standing before the gas stove for long time. LG All-in-One microwaves can help in that. Its Roti Basket feature can help in preparing 12 different kinds of roti like Naans, Lachcha Paranthas, Tandoori Rotis, Thepla, Missi Rotis, Appams easily. It can also help in making 12 different kinds of dosa like plain dosa, masala dosa, rava dosa etc.

Milk Pasteurizing: We boil milk before consuming to kill its germs. But in the process, we also kill many of its nutrients. It is much healthier to pasteurize the milk instead of boiling it as it kills germs but keep the nutrition of the milk intact. LG All-in-One microwaves have a special feature that pasteurizes the milk. This kills the germs of the milk, keeps the nutrients safe and also reduces the risk of the milk getting spilled over upon boiling. A 2 liter container is provided free with the microwaves in which the milk can be pasteurized and stored.

All-in-One: LG All-in-One microwave are so named because they can do the work of various appliances like a griddle, kettle, toaster, steamer, tandoor, barbeque, air fryer and OTG. This saves not just the money but also space in the kitchen and is an ideal solution for homes with small kitchens.

Diet FryTM: In the above paragraph, you might have noticed the words 'air fryer.' Yes, LG All-in-One has a special feature called Diet Fry that can help the users cook dishes like potato chips, samosa, tikki with very less oil. The Diet FryTM technology can save up to 88% oil while cooking such fried food items. So, even all these 'unhealthy' snacks can be made healthier and enjoyed without any guilt.

Anti-bacterial: These microwaves also come with an Anti-Bacterial cavity that can reduce the bacteria growth by up to 99.99%.

Special Technologies: LG claims that these All-in-One microwaves have world's first charcoal lighting heater which help in more natural cooking when compared to the conventional sheath. They are also equipped with LG's Patent i-Wave Technology which emits 3-D waves for a faster, healthier and more even cooking.

Price & Availability: The LG "All-In-One Microwave Oven" are available in 21 - 32 Litre range and are priced between Rs 12650 - Rs 28590 in India. Different models in this range have different features to suit the needs of the customer. That is, all models in this range don't have all the features mentioned above. These microwaves are available at select LG Brand Shops.

As I was invited to attend a live demo session of all these features, I actually saw ghee, naan, dosa, paneer being made and milk being pasteurized in a microwave. So if you want to do Indian cooking in a microwave, I can say that you should check out the LG All-in-One microwaves.
