Iggle Piggle Hat

By Bewilderedbug @bewilderedbug

You know those posts on facebook and emails flying around asking for 7 things people do not know about you?  Well here’s one….I can knit…sorta.

Okay some of you may have known that, but most of you didn’t.

My Mom taught me to knit and crochet when I was small, but I haven’t knitted anything beyond scarves and hats.

So when my friend Shari, from the KnitWit by Shair asked me if I’d like to knit an Iggle Piggle Hat, I was all for it!

Wait, you don’t know who Iggle Piggle is?  *gasp*!

Okay fine, I didn’t either, I had to look him up – so, FYI….

Iggle Piggle Hat

Iggle Piggle is a character on “In the Night Garden“.  He is a member of the CeeBeeBees – who I actually know about (thanks to my little nephew in London a few years ago).  I just didn’t know their names, but now, after making this hat, I decided to look into Iggle Piggle and made the connection.

So I decided to try to knit this hat although I had not knitted in years…..and hit a few snafoos….not because of the pattern, but because of my inexperience in knitting in a round.  Knitting in a round means that you knit the piece in one…er…piece….instead of knitting it flat and sewing it together.  Now, I’ve never done this – and it started off a little complicated for me, because I was holding the needles vertically and parallel to each other – and basically ended up 1) knitting about 3 inches if the hat flat…then realized I was going wrong.

So I called the Mommy.  And after consulting, kept the needles parallel and vertical and knitted from the bottom, and then swore I did something wrong and pulled it out again (even though, retrospectively, I think it actually would have worked …)

So I called the Mommy again – to get a “It’s not rocket science you know…just bring it over…” (yes, that’s exactly where I get it from)

So I did.

And she put me on the right track – it was supposed to look like this:

Eventually – it looked like this….(yes I did stocking stitch on the bottom by mistake on purpose)

And then I added the hair in the wrong direction (even though I had a feeling I was in the wrong direction when I was doing it…) because I’m tired and completely a ditz and didn’t actually look up Iggle Piggle until after I knit the hat – but it still looked good (I think).

Yes, yes, I know Iggle Piggle really has red hair, but I was using the ends of my scraps from years ago – I had blue, lavender and yellow “in stock”…

Anyways, I ended up with the cutest little baby hat – and will be trying to make it again because I would love to actually make the hat the way it was supposed to be!

The pattern itself is ridiculously easy and is being sold for $3.50 (USD) on The Knitwit by Shair, along with other really easy knitting patterns – and yes, she also sells on her Etsy store

Just cause I’m a ditz does not mean that you are, and you will be able to make this, easy peasy, no problem even as a beginner!

Happy Knitting!
