A cold day in deepest December. The welcome at Wimbledon, however, was as warm as the day the Andy Murray won the Men’s Singles.
Did we mention that Andy Murray was the first British man to win Wimbledon since King William the Conqueror? Or something like that…
In fact, if your tennis knowledge is a scant as mine (see above statement re William the Conqueror) then this is the place for you.
As we wrote about The British Music Experience the other week here in this slot, the Wimbledon Museum is a paragon of modern curation. Fascinating things to read and look at, balanced with interactive aspects that will keep even the most skittish of kids hooked for ages.
My favorite bit was the virtual John McEnroe. He’s long been a hero of mine (we blogged about him last year) and his “presence” at the museum, wry, witty, that glorious New York irascibility bristling just beneath the surface, is a joy. His virtual incarnation takes us through a behind-the-scenes tour of the locker room from the point of view of a champion. How can I get a virtual John McEnroe for my living room?
