Posted on the 01 October 2014 by Jyoti Arora @Jy0tiAr0ra

So, it’s festive season in India. The spirit of celebration is spreading. And the markets have already adorned themselves with fresh new offerings coupled with attractive discounts and deals.

And if I look at the recent happenings in the smartphone area, I feel that the festive season is being celebrated here too! Almost every day, new smartphones are being launched.

I know, I know, smartphone technology is moving at such a rapid pace that such frequent appearances of new products is nothing new.

Well, anyway, the news is that on 29th September, 2014, Huawei launched not one, not two, but four new products in India. Two of these are smartphones and two are tablets. All these products belong to Huawei’s new Honor range of products. Honor is to be Huawei’s online brand. And so, all these four devices will be available exclusively on Flipkart only in India. As of now though, the price of only two of these Honor devices has been announced. The details about the price and availability of the other two new devices would be announced later.

So, let’s take a quick look at these four devices.

Huawei Honor 6

Huawei Honor 6

Honor 6:

Honor 6 is the flagship device of the Honor range. It is a sleek and stylish smartphone that has been designed to enhance the operating speed and thereby the swiftness and smoothness of its functions. Honor 6 has a smooth and glossy back and a metal frame surrounding it. To me, the appearance of the device really appealed with the elegance of its simplicity. The Power key and the Volume Rocker are its only physical keys. The camera and the flash at the back occupy very little space. Even the Honor logo at the back in unobtrusive. And all this combines to give the device a really nice simplicity, sleekness and elegance.

But anyway, as I always say, mere looks don’t make a good phone. So here’s what Honor 6 has on the inside. To begin with, it has 12.7 CM (5.0 inch) Full HD in-cell screen display with 445PPI, 1080 X 1920 resolution. That means that the display is bright and vivid and can offer nice clarity and contrast. To ensure a speedier performance, Huawei Honor 6 has been equipped with Hisilicon Kirin 920 Octa-Core Processor and 3 GB RAM. It has 16 GB internal storage, expandable by microSD card and it has 3100mAH Energy Efficient, but non-removable battery. The battery is supported by Huawei’s 30% Patented Power Saving Technology.

Of course, these days no smartphone can call itself good without having a good camera. Well, Honor 6 has 13 MP Sony rear camera and 5 MP front camera. Camera features include various filters, Panorama Shot, Panaromic Selfies, beauty features, watermark, HDR, Best Photo, adding of short Audio Note and the innovative Alt Focus that can change the focus on different areas of the photo after the picture has been clicked. The 5 MP front camera means better Selfies. Also, the Selfie mode can also be used in low lights as there’s an option that increases the brightness of the screen while clicking the picture so as to light up the area.

Honor 6 has 4.4.2 KitKat OS and Huawei’s Emotion UI 2.3. It has the Magazine Lock Screen that rotates the wallpapers. As for connectivity, Honor 6 supports 4G and LTE Cat 6 CA

It is also equipped with a heat control technology that ensures that the device stays cooler.

As for the features, it has motion commands, its sound recorder can be used in different modes to get the best sound recording output, it also has some nice and useful apps like Mirror and Magnifier. It also has the Ultra Power Saving Mode to keep the essential functions of the phone running for long even on a low battery.

But the one feature of Honor 6 that I liked the best was its ultra fast snapshot feature. This feature enables the user to quickly click a picture even when the phone’s Lock Screen is off. To use this, one just has to quickly press the volume rocker twice. That instantly switches on the camera and the picture is clicked automatically. Honor 6 also has a very nice and capable photo editor.

The phone has several Home Screen transition effects. However, the widgets don’t seem to be resizable. Also, while there are five shortcuts on the Lock Screen, these aren’t customizable. They can only be used to access Camera, Calendar, Calculator, Flashlight and Mirror. There are no Lock Screen widgets. And there are no Voice Commands. The device does have Swype input method for typing which seems to function quite accurately.

All in all, a very pleasing device.

Honor 6 will be available on Flipkart from 6th October 2014 and will be priced at Rs. 19,999.

Media Pad Honor T1

As the name suggests, T1 is a tablet device. This device too has much to ensure a stylish appearance. It has Aluminum body with softly curved edges. It is 7.9 mm in thickness and weighs 360 grams. It has 8 inch HD IPS display with 72% screen to body ratio. Honor T1 has been equipped with 48mAh battery, also with Huawei’s 30% Patented Power Saving Technology. As for processing power, it is equipped with 1.2 GHz Processor with 28nm multi-core CPU. It has Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS which is rather disappointing. It has 1 GB RAM (which may account for it being a Jelly Bean device) and 8 GB internal storage. Its camera is 5 MP. Honor T1 is also capable of 2G/3G voice calling as well. Honor T1 will be available exclusively on Flipkarrt from 10 October 2014 and will be priced at Rs. 9,999.

The other two devices announced at the launch are Honor Holly (Smartphone) and Honor X1 7.0 (Tablet). The availability dates and price of these haven’t yet been announced.

Honor Holly is also a good-looking device. It has 5 inch HD display with 1280 X 720 resolution. It is equipped with Quad Core 1.3 GHz Processors, 16 GB internal storage, 1 GB RAM, 2000 mAh battery and 8 MP Primary camera.
