How To Wear A Vest: 4 Easy Tips

By Thelawsoffashion

I think I wore a down vest to school everyday in 8th grade.  I suppose I could back then because I weighed about 90 pounds.  Vests add bulk to your frame, especially if they aren’t worn properly.  You can wear this season’s vests and be right on trend.  And you don’t even have to be 14.

Follow these 4 easy tips to look your best in a vest:

1. Make sure you buy a vest that is cut at a longer length.  Long enough to skim the bottom of your hips.  People assume bests are supposed to barely reach the top of your hips, but that doesn’t really make sense when you think about it.  You don’t ever want an article of clothing to end at the thickest part of your: hips, thighs, calves, arms, etc.  The reason that you should avoid this fit is because when something ends at the thickest part of you, it emphasizes that particular thickness–meaning it is not slimming.  Usually, looking thicker is not anyone’s goal, unless they want to emphasize the curves of their hips, for example.  If that curve happens to be one of your assets, then go for it.  But if not, slimming those areas should be your goal.

2. Experiment with unique fabrics.  This does not mean knitting your own with 70′s colored yarn.  This means, tweed, leather, wool etc.  Different fabrics emphasize the fit and fashion forwardness of your look.  It draws the eye to your style.

3.  Make sure the best is relatively slim-fitting.  You don’t want a boxy, ill-fitting vest that adds bulk to your frame.  But, also be sure that the vest can actually button if it needed to.

4. Leave the vest unbuttoned.  This is a fresh take on the vest.  It allows for fluid lines, a flattering silhouette and provides depth.  Whereas, a buttoned vest adds years and looks too serious.
