About omelette:

Egg omelette is a versatile and a popular dish made by beating eggs and the remaining ingredients and  fillings are as per individual choices. Like we can simply make it by adding pepper, salt and chili powder and beat it well then make an omelet in a frying pan or skillet. Another choice is traditional indian omelet which can be mixed with lots of small onions(shallots),curry leaves, coriander leaves, green chilies and other spices to make an aromatic egg omelet.

In the same way some make scrambled eggs. Without waiting to flip the omelette, immediately pouring the egg mixture they start to scramble and cook it softly.To learn more about the health benefits of egg check here.

Variations of egg omelette:

We can try egg omelette  with different fillings or different cuisines like Western omelette which is made with ham and bell peppers. Then comes a spanish omelette which is filled with potatoes and onions.

Tips to make perfect Egg omelet recipe:

Fresh eggs: Always choose fresh eggs to make omelet to increase the taste and quality.

Beating: Beating the eggs thoroughly gives a fluffy texture to the omelet. Also add the spice powders while beating for even mixing.

Pan: selecting the choice of pan also matters. If you are using a non-stick or well seasoned iron skillet , you will get a perfect omelet without sticking at the bottom.

Low flame: When eggs are burnt it will become sour. So keep the flame low to cook on both sides for even cooking.

Overcooking: do not overcook the eggs as it spoils the taste.

Ingredients to make omelette:

Egg – use broiler or country chicken eggs to make omelet. Make sure you are using fresh ones.

Onion – you can use both shallots or big onions. Chop them finely and use it.

How to make spice powder:

  1. Heat a pan, add fennel seeds, red chilies and peppercorns. Roast them in low flame until a nice aroma comes. Cool them and grind fine or coarse powder.

How to make omelette:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add finely chopped onions, green chilies and curry leaves.
  2. To that add turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Add powdered omelet powder and give it a quick mix using a spoon to bend well.
  4. Break the egg and add to the masala.
  5. Beat well using a fork until it becomes frothy.
  6. Heat a iron skillet or non-stick pan, grease with some oil and pour egg mixture and spread it evenly.
  7. Keep the flame low and cook covered for 2 mins.Pour some oil on the sides and top.
  8. Flip gently without breaking the omelet.
  9. Cook for 3 more mins in low flame and serve immediately as hot.

My personal favorite is rasam. I still remember my childhood days, my amma serves hot rasam sadam with perfectly onion omelet for dinner. You can also serve with any rice or sambar sadam.

Can we add milk to this recipe?

I have seen people adding milk to the omelet for a creamier texture. I personally never tried it so I don’t recommend the addition of milk as I don’t know the health benefits of its combination.

How to store omelets if there is left over?

Egg omelets are recommended to serve as fresh. Make it hot with as few eggs as you want. Still there is some left over. Keep it in an airtight and microwave to reheat and serve hot.
