How to Make Golden Milk, or a Turmeric Latte

When I was a kid, every time winter came around (and it was cold/flu season), my mom would always make me a warm glass of turmeric milk at night before I went to sleep. She swore by it as a way to help manage cold/flu symptoms - and talked about how it was one of those "ancient Indian recipes" passed down from generation to generation.

I loved the delicious, slightly sweet, velvety drink - and even as I got older it became my go-to when I had a cold or a sore throat, or even when I just wanted something to soothe my stomach at the end of the night.

Fast forward a few years later, and I've started seeing "Golden Milk" and "Turmeric Lattes" and "Turmeric Tea" everywhere! Which isn't surprising, because it's such a unique, warming and tasty drink for the winter.

So when I was approached by the folks at Frontier Co-op to try a set of their spices, including their Turmeric, Vietnamese Cinnamon, and Cracked Black Pepper, I thought my mom's Golden Milk recipe would be the perfect way to test them out!

I love Frontier Co-op's spices because their spices are always 100% Organic, Sustainable and Fair Trade certified. They have a commitment to giving back to the community and the environment through their work, and it's reflected in the high quality of their spices.

And their spiced worked perfectly in this recipe! I hope this nostalgic drink from my childhood warms you up this winter!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of choice (I use organic 1% milk, but any milk would work fine)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of ginger powder

Directions

  1. Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
  2. Pour the milk into a small sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Alternatively you can heat it in the microwave too!
  3. Drink and enjoy!
