Is your family excited to hop down the bunny trail this Easter? COVID-19 is really restricting everyone's holiday plans, and most of us will be spending Easter inside the house. During this difficult time, a great way to relieve stress and forget about worldly troubles is crafting with your family. Check out these easy and affordable Easter craft ideas for children!

The most popular Easter craft is painted Easter eggs. Not only are they fun for the entire family, but they also make great holiday decorations. Tissue paper Easter eggs are a fun twist on the traditional painted eggs. You will need:

  • Boiled or blown eggs
  • Tissue paper of various colours, cut into different shapes
  • Paintbrush or sponge brush
  • Modge Podge

It is so easy! Simply sponge or paint the tissue paper on with the Modge Podge, adding a light enough layer of paste to stick the tissue paper to the egg. Younger kids may need to use larger pieces of tissue paper. Sit the eggs in the carton or in a cup to let them air dry.

When the eggs are finished they look like stained glass. Pick Easter colours like pink, yellow and blue. You can try pastels for more muted eggs, or bright colours like the ones pictured above. No paint means less mess!

These adorable finger puppets are fun to make and your kids will enjoy playing with them after their craft time is finished. The best thing about this craft is how easy it is, but younger kids may need some assistance with the hot glue gun. You will need:

  • Pipe cleaners in different colours
  • Googly eyes
  • Fuzzy pom-poms in different sizes and colours
  • Hot glue gun

Use your child's finger to wrap the pipe cleaner for the body so you have it sized correctly. Make sure it's not too tight. Use a pom-pom for the head. Glue the head, eyes and other body parts and decorations with the hot glue gun. Make sure you let the finger puppet dry completely before playing with it.

Be creative. You can get a ribbon and make a little bowtie for your Easter Bunny, or use buttons to give your fuzzy chicks Easter eggs to hold under their wings. Once your puppet is made, it's easy to decorate and personalize it!

Another unique take on the decorated Easter egg is to get out the hot glue gun and get creative! This is a great craft for older children. You will need:
  • Boiled or blown eggs
  • Hot glue gun
  • Yarn in different colours
  • Buttons
  • Any small embellishments you can glue on the egg- the options are endless!

Put a small strip of hot glue on the egg and wrap the yarn around the egg in a spiral design, starting at the top from the smaller, pointed part of the egg. Change colours of yarn to add stripes to your egg.

Try glueing small, coloured buttons to an egg for a different look. Glue a piece of yarn to the egg so you can hang them as decorations!

Toilet paper roll crafts are a great way to re-use a toilet paper roll that would otherwise end up in recycling. You will need:
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Coloured paper
  • White glue (or glue stick, but white glue works better)
  • Scotch Tape
  • Fuzzy pom-poms in different colours
  • You can use pipe cleaners or paper as bunny whiskers

Wrap the paper around the toilet paper and glue it on. After it dries, glue on your eyes, nose and other accents. Tape the bunny ears to the inside of the toilet paper roll. One they are dry, these Easter friends are ready to play with!

Let your family make their own Easter decoration to string up around your home! There are lots of ways you can make Easter garland, but for the most part, what you will need is:
  • Paper or card stock (coloured, printed or plain white)
  • String, ribbon or yarn
  • Hole punch
  • Wooden clothespins
  • Paint, crayons or markers if you want to decorate your own

This project is where you can really get creative. You can cut out shapes of eggs, bunnies or chicks and decorate them any way you want! Or you can but the shapes out of printed and coloured paper. Hole-punch them and string them or attach them to yarn with clothespins. What a fun way to decorate the house! Hang them in the windows so your community can enjoy your work.

Popsicle stick crafts are so easy and fun for kids of all ages. For this craft, all you will need is:
  • Popsicle sticks (plain or coloured!)
  • Paper in various colours
  • Felts sheets in various colours
  • White glue or a hot glue gun
  • Coloured markers

I personally find it easier to hot glue gun the popsicle sticks together and to use the hot glue gun to attach the felt pieces. The paper parts can be glued on with the white glue. Make an Easter chick and an Easter Bunny, and decorate them the way you want!
