The Himalayas are a spectacular mountain range stretching for 1600 miles, from Pakistan in the west, through Northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sikkim before petering out in China. Himalaya means “place of the snows”. Containing the 10 highest peaks on Earth, the Himalayas are often referred to as the “Roof of the World.” Nepal, the only Hindu kingdom in the world, is home to no less than 8 of those peaks and the incredible landscape is matched by the warmth and generosity of the Nepalese people. For many years, the splendours of Nepal were only seen by a privileged few mountaineers and travellers but in the late 1950′s, Jimmy Roberts pioneered what we all now know as Himalaya Trek. Gradually, more and more people began visiting this beautiful kingdom and tourism has now become Nepal’s largest and most valuable source of income.
This stunning trek takes place in the Himalayan Annapurnas, home to some of the highest peaks in the world; the summit of Annapurna I rises to 8091m. As we trek among them, we feel dwarfed by the sheer size and proximity of their snow-capped peaks. Our challenge takes us from the frenetic, fascinating city of Kathmandu through mountainside villages and thick rhododendron forest. We continue up out of the tree-line over 3000m, where awe-inspiring views of the great peaks and glaciers of the Annapurnas await us. This will be a tough challenge but one where our efforts reward us with some of the most magnificent mountain panoramas in the world!
