Had There Been a Boston Market at the Time, the Pilgrims Might Have Established a Different Tradition.

Had there been a Boston Market at the time, the pilgrims might have established a different tradition.

Last year, Cracker Barrel reported that Thanksgiving Day sales were the highest of any day in company history. Also, more people were napping in their rocking chairs on the "porch" than ever before (not really; I made that rocking chair part up).

Maybe the main reason the pilgrims set us on the course of home-cooked turkey and home-cooked yams and home-slid-into-a-bowl cranberry sauce was simply the lack of Boston Markets and Cracker Barrels back then.

At least, the uppercase, registered-trademark, corporate kind.

(Did the pilgrims call Boston “Boston?” My joke might suffer from anachronism issues.)

Anyway.

Last year, Cracker Barrel had the highest sales of any day in company history on Thanksgiving Day. Also, Boston Market had sales increase 13%.

So while the foodies debate the preferred spices for the homemade stuffing—or whether to use White Castles—a whole bunch of us are saying, “It’s a day off, I don’t want to cook, I don’t want to stay home but I don’t want to go to your relatives” and showing up at restaurants.
