St Patrick’s day it next week. I wanted to make something a bit more different than say Corned Beef Cabbage and potatoes.  I have had and like chocolate beer, so a beer sherbet would be right up my alley. I got the idea from Julia Child’s who has a similar recipe with Coffee.

This is my weird recipe for Saint Patrick’s day. I have seen some weird combinations on the web. This one works rather well. The Guinness gives the sherbet a bit of a malty taste along with the tang of the sour cream. They play against each other rather well. The chocolate, well it is chocolate and who doesn’t love that?

Guinness Chocolate Sour Cream Sorbet

Ingredients:

1 can Guinness or other stout beer

1 cup white sugar

8 ounces semi sweet chocolate

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups sour cream

Directions:

In a medium saucepan simmer Guinness over low heat until reduced to about 2/3 of a cup about 15 minutes.

Add the sugar and chocolate, continue to simmer until the sugar and chocolate is incorporated. The liquid should be perfectly melted, smooth and slightly thickened. This should take about five minutes.

Set the saucepan over ice to chill, stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream then freeze according to your machine directions.

Peace be with you,

Veronica
