A couple of years ago, inspired by the book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Harari we challenged ourselves to explore some of the lessons. Go here to read more about the challenges.
Yuval Noah Harari’s first book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind has been turned into a graphic novel series. Yuval Noah has teamed up with comics artists David Vandermeulen and Daniel Casanave (illustrator), to retell the story of humankind. These graphics novels are an engaging way to explore his story of humankind. They will captivate young adults as well as adults. Graphic novels are a great way to capture the interest of people who do not usually read science or history books.
Graphic novels and comic books are also great if you are having problems with reading. Dyslexic author Jay Stringer says:
“A comic book trains your brain. It works the right muscles and, if you’re struggling, it can teach you to read. You see images for context, you see the words that go with them, and your mind learns to fill in the blanks. You learn to build the narrative as you go. As a child, I suddenly got it. I had a structure, a guide for processing the information I was taking in, and where to store it. I had a reason to keep moving through the pages.”
