Government to Try Pervez Musharraf for High-treason

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced to try former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for high treason under article 6 of the Constitution.

While addressing in National Assembly on Monday, the prime minister said that the former military ruler breached the constitution twice, stopped the judges of higher judiciary from working and took unconstitutional steps of imposing emergency on November 3, 2007.

He said that Pakistan came into being thanks to a great democratic struggle, and process of transition of power is the only certification of the endurance of the country.

The prime minister said that democratic journey is on song and the assemblies of February 18, 2008 completed their term without any concealed umbrella.

PML-N chief said that the last parliament deserves respect for refusing to endorse the unconstitutional steps of November 3 taken by the dictator.

He said that the back-to-back military coups are responsible for the most of the problems today.

The opposition parties announced their support for prime minister’s decision saying those who violated the constitution should be held accountable.
