The Pixel series of phones by Google may be in the list of the best Android devices out there, they still have their shortcomings. One such disadvantage is the lack of dual SIM, dual standby support. Looks like it might not be the case anymore in the next generation of Pixel smartphones.
Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL shall pop up later this year, around October or November, just in time for the festive season. Although the rumour mill has not quite picked its pace yet, a code check-in in the Android source hints at the possible introduction of dual SIM, dual standby support. The existing Pixel devices do support dual SIM, but they are 'single standby'. Meaning to say only one of the SIM cards can be used to receive calls and texts at any instance in time. The other one lies dormant in the inactive slot. With this improvement, Pixel will come head-to-head with the latest iPhones, which already support this behaviour. This will also result in a healthier work-life balance to be managed by a single piece of hardware by using both work and personal numbers in the same phone.
Although a lot is yet unknown regarding the hardware specifications of this year's Pixel devices, the presence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is a given. We might also see a bump in the RAM to 6 gigs (from 4 GB last year). The new piece of hardware will run on the upcoming Android Q, which shall be revealed at this year's Google I/O event to be held in May.
