God As Our Refuge and Strength: My First Car Accident Ever

By Robin Salvador @vinzsalvador23

Last Night I attended my Boss' Wedding at Bellevue Hotel Manila. It was the most grand and awesome wedding ceremony I have attended so far. There were lots of Chinese and Filipino dishes and colorful lights. Theme was also as great as the venue. It was attended by some of the most prominent people in the industry, close friends, families and relatives, officemates, etc. I really loved the wedding ceremony especially when the bride and the groom shared their vows to each other. Saying their "I will's" instead of the traditional "I do's" was the most intimate and touching part of the ceremony. In the middle of the ceremony, while standing at the corner, I had a sudden vision of my own wedding day. I know it's still far off, I simply let God write my own story, but today my main concern is to just finish this article. Lol

God As Our Refuge and Strength: My First Car Accident Ever

After the party was over, we left the venue around 11:30PM and as we planned the other night, we decided to stay overnight at the office. Waiting in the lobby of the hotel for our car took more than 10 minutes because they had a hard time starting the engine. Finally, the car was ready and we all went in. There were five of us inside the car. Just a minute after leaving the hotel, one of my officemates decided to change her gown since she's going to commute going to Manila. We stopped in front of the hotel and waited for her. When she finally finished changing, she went back into the car and we went our way and dropped her off in Alabang.

This time we headed to our officemate's house to get the stuff we left before going to the wedding. On the road we sang worship songs, chatted and talked about some stuff. By this time, as we approached Marcos Alvarez, when we made our turn to enter the Subdivision on the left side of the road, one motorcycle suddenly hit our car. I just blocked out and didn't even know what really happened. I saw one motorcycle beside our car and the other one next to it. We were all shocked. I was looking at the man laying beside the motorcycle and he was not moving. We didn't know what to do. Before we went out of the car, I prayed to God. I prayed for the man, hoping he is safe and alive. While my friend, the driver of the car, was talking to the people I took the opportunity to pray and pray for the situation, especially for the driver of the motorcycle. I called my Brother-in-Christ to pray for us and I texted some of my friends to just pray for us. To my joy and amazement, the man was safe and alive. An emergency rescue unit quickly arrived and brought the patient to the nearest hospital.

We accompanied our friend to the precinct and testified on what we saw. After almost 3 hours of discussions and sharing each of their own versions of the story, finally both parties decided to make an arrangement. We gave them money for their medical expenses and exchanged forgiveness because of what happened.

God As Our Refuge and Strength: My First Car Accident Ever

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. - Psalm 46:1

After all that happened, I asked myself, does our fate depend on our choices? If we left the hotel late or earlier would that accident have happened? If our officemate didn't change her gown and decided to stop at the hotel, would that accident have happened? If we didn't leave our stuff in our friend's house, would it have happened? Or if I chose not to go on that wedding would the accident still have happened? Does our fate depend on how we use our time? A lot of questions came to my mind but here's one thing that God told me, "there are no accidents in life, everything happens for a reason".

T. D. Jakes once said, "That thing that is not coming to you may seem good. But either the timing is wrong, or from His position He can see that the future of it is bleak. I have always believed that people who thank God only for delivering them from what happened are just scraping the surface of praise. The real praise comes when you start thanking Him for what could have happened but didn't because of His swift grace!"

God showed to me how sovereign He is in our lives. He is in control of the things that we cannot control. He can make impossible things for men possible. He hears our fervent desires if we trust Him. He loves us unconditionally and above all, He is gracious to those who diligently seek Him.
