Give Yourself a Break

In the past week I have had two days where I just curled up under a blanket in front of the tv and watched my shows all day. I was quiet, but not unsettled other than the fact that I had a lot to do and was not getting it done. I felt as if I needed “time off” – but time off from what? I have not had that much to do recently, so why do I feel so exhausted and why do I leave it all till last minute?

I found myself playing the blame game – what was I doing when there was so much to do? What had I achieved that day?! Why am I so lazy? Then I saw this.

(This came from the awesome page of inspiration from “The Wellness Warrior“. There are a lot of awesome quotes there, so if you need a pick me up check it out…)

And I forgave myself. I started remembering the concepts I learnt in my cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) group and just during my life in general…and decided to concentrate on these instead of playing the blame game with myself. It’s a much healthier point of view and keeps me happy.

Perhaps some of these will help you too:

Surround yourself with positive, supportive people – from YOUR perspective (you’d be surprised who may not be on that list).

Remember that what you have is once what you did not have but desired.

I have everything I need to be happy right now.

Be the change you wish to see in the world (Gandhi).

It is okay to be selfish when taking care of me.

Love yourself with as much energy and enthusiasm as you love others.

Forgive yourself as often as needed – it is okay to make mistakes.

No one is perfect – you do not have to be.

If a situation is overwhelming, take a moment, breathe and ask yourself, what is the worst that could happen? Is that really so bad?

There is always a solution to any challenges that face you.
