I was kindly sent some Ginvera samples to try out, including a BB cream, some exfoliating gel and this Ginvera Aqua Whitening Cream. All came in lovely green packaging with the air of quality that a girl can only wish for! But does the cream actually work, and what does ‘whitening cream’ actually do?

I was a little worried about what ‘whitening cream’ actually means because as a very pale person the last thing I want is to become even more pale. It’s hard enough finding foundations as it is! The Ginvera website isn’t very clear either, although it does suggest that with repeated use skin may become lighter. I decided to give this cream a go anyway to see what happened. I think the ‘whitening’ part mainly refers to the cream’s ability to even skin tone and lighten scars and marks, which does do to a certain degree, but you’d need to use the cream numerous times to notice much difference.

One area where I haven’t noticed a difference is the oil control this cream is supposed to possess. I have exceedingly greasy skin and most oil control products can’t handle this so I wasn’t expecting miracles. However the reason I haven’t completely given up on this cream is because it’s so, well, ‘creamy’! It has a lovely smooth feeling which feels light on my skin, whilst simultaneously feeling soothing and moisturising. It provides skin with hydration and leaves a dewy look, but in my case this just seems a bit greasy. Oh, and it smells great!

The Ginvera Aqua Whitening cream also moisturises my neck well where I have dry skin, and generally feels fresh, spreads very well and dries quickly, so I’d possibly recommend this cream for those with normal/dry skin. As it’s fragranced it might not be good for those with sensitive skin. For those with greasy skin I’d suggest only using this at night time like I do, because using it during the day I find I can’t easily apply make up on top of the cream as the excess oily makes it virtually impossible for make up to stay put. As such I don’t think I could justify paying £15 for this 40g tube, although I understand that I’m not that target audience.
