Being in someone's wedding is not a cheap proposition nor is it for the time sensitive girl. While it is quite an honor being asked to be a bridesmaid or even a maid of honor, saying yes should be considered carefully.
It is in this light that the bride should show her appreciation by offering a gift of thanks to each of her attendants. Traditionally, the bride would give a strand of pearls for her girls to wear on the wedding day but like everything else that has gone to the wayside, brides are being a little more creative when choosing their tokens of appreciation.
I happen to really love some of the ideas floating around out there. I had to do some research because I was one of those girls who gave pearls but somewhere in my daughter's eyes crossing I was able to figure out that this would not be her preference. After hearing "pearls are very dated" was I sure of it.
I actually love what she has chosen for her girls and in order not to spoil her surprise-since some of her girls read this blog- I have not included her gift as one of the ideas although I might refer back to this after she gives the items out.
The first gift I came across was the idea of finding an heirloom or even new locket for each girl. The example I saw was actually a very pretty round ball. The bride would cut a long strip of thin paper and write a message individually to each girl and roll it up and place it inside. You could also include a photo of the two of you together.
The next gift is a gift of time. Invite your girls out for a manicure and pedicure before the wedding. It is a nice way to spend some time with the girls being pampered and it will eliminate another expense for your wedding party. Who doesn't like having some laughs and happy times together? You could also ask for a price cut from the salon manager since there will be many of you coming in together.
What I really love is something engraved. It is not something we would normally buy for ourselves but it is such a personal token of appreciation. There are many places on the internet that offer various items that can be personalized. I saw this pocket mirror which is nice for any girl to have in her pocketbook. You could even an item this big engraved with a special message.
No matter what gift you choose...and there are many to pick from...the one thing you absolutely must include is a thank you letter or note. I know we live in a world full of emails, texts, and twitters but a small note of thanks is not only proper etiquette but also shows your appreciation.
