George Dickel Lemonade Cocktail

Well, the Super Bowl is almost here and I'm sad. It means the Broncos reign is over and my cat Peyton will now just be any cat, not one with the current Super Bowl quarterback as his legacy. But I'll survive; I always find a team to root for and a cocktail to make and this year is no different. I've decided to make the Atlanta Falcons my team of choice this year so I've chosen their colors and the drink I'm offering up for the big party this year is a George Dickel Lemonade Cocktail...so very Southern!

As much as I love making cocktails there is no doubt that my considerable bar inventory makes them relatively easy to pull together. My latest numbers has me at over 200 bottles of everything I could conceivably want or need to craft a delicious libation. Still, I have readers that often comment that they wish they could make more drinks at home but they never have all of the ingredients. This one's for you; it is so easy - NO excuses!

Without a well stocked bar the startup costs might be intimidating so many simply continue to drink beer and wine and maybe the occasion rum and coke and are good with that. So today, with the Super Bowl in mind, I decided to make something so simple that no one will be searching far and wide for ingredients or have to spend but minutes in preparation. It's just lemonade...and some George Dickel #12 Whisky. Umm...good.

I'll be honest, I made this with some homemade lemonade; mostly because I buy lemons from Costco and always juice the entire bag and freeze the juice in cubes so that I always have plenty on hand. Lemonade is simple...it's a combination of simple syrup (water and sugar boiled together and chilled), water and lemon juice. That's it. Well, for most people I guess. I like to add a bit of freshly grated lemon rind for an extra lemon boost but that step is purely optional.

If that is even more than you feel like doing? Buy some concentrate from the grocery store and just add water and ice. Lemonade? Done. Next step. Whiskey. As easy as this cocktail is; it does require one important step. Buy good Whiskey! I love the George Dickel #12 Whiskey I used in this recipe. Everything at George Dickel is done by hand, from the selecting of barrels to whiskey distillation and it results in a collaboration that is a match made in Heaven, or maybe even better, in Tennessee where the George Dickel brand is located.

But seriously; that's all there is to it. Lemonade. whiskey and ice. Easy, delicious. cold and refreshing. If I wanted to stretch the cocktails a bit further I would also consider topping them with a bit of sparkling soda; that would be fantastic too. Either way, top it with a fresh lemon slice and sip away. Cheers and oh yes...GO Falcons!
