The Gare au Gorille is a place Colette and I loved a month ago - the dishes were delicious despite their boring descriptions.  So back we went with two old but new friends (she had been told 50 years ago to read my case summary as an example of a good one, little did I know that then, or that they'd both be recipients of France's Légion d'Honneur).

Our firsts were a soup of butternut with a poached egg and haddock and chips of something or other and veal carpaccio with leeks, raddishes and and herring - I won't bore you by saying however boring they sound they were quite amazing.

Then we had the cod with mussels and a smokes sausage and salad greens as well as duch breast cooked perfectly - for him, well-done, for me, crisp on the outside/raw on the inside - served simultaneously) with heirloom carrots and pickles and a puree of ah-hem, I dunno.  Again, these may sound banal but they anything but.

To finish the great meal off, we had the chocolate cream with honey and peanuts and lemon tart with multi-fruits (some of which were grape-) and meringue.

Our bill with 2 bottles of Vina Illusion, their own sparkling water and three coffees, was 100.75 a couple.

Go?  It's still full of locals, so go before the NYT spoils it with guys like us.
