Fun Activities to Do with Baby: Mom and Baby Groups, Programs, and Classes

By Peaceloveorganicmom
Once baby reaches a certain age (and you are getting more sleep at night) you may be looking for fun activities to do with him/her while also meeting other moms and babies. There are so many great programs available now so you can soon start a weekly activity with you little one and meet some new friends too!
Mom and Baby Fitness Class: Many yoga studios have "mommy and me" classes which offer a nice setting to meet other moms while also having a little workout. There is also a great group available across the country called Stroller Strides, which is a stroller-based total body workout program. All Stroller Strides locations also offer a free Plum Moms Club so you can form friendships with other moms through organized playdates, moms' nights out, and activities for the entire family.
Baby Swim Lessons: Baby swimming lessons are a life-saving and fun activity for both mom and baby. Many YMCA's offer parent and child swimming lessons for starting at 6 months of age.
Baby Gyms: There are several different baby-gym facilities cropping up nationwide which are an excellent way for baby to develop physical and social skills. Some examples are MyGym which has programs for baby starting at 6 weeks of age and The Little Gym which begins classes at 4 months of age. Both of the above gyms offer a free introductory class so you can test out a class before committing.
MOPS Group: MOPS or Mother of Preschoolers is a great way to meet and create friendships with other moms who have young children (newborn to kindergarten). The groups meet in a variety of settings as frequently as every week or as infrequently as once a month. While mothers are in their meeting children are cared for in MOPPETS, a program where they play and learn with other children.
Storytimes: Many public libraries as well as bookstores offer free storytimes catered to specific age groups.
Meetup.com: This website is such a helpful resource to find groups (for just about anything) in your local community. I have found several different mom and baby playgroups on this site just a couple miles away from my home. Also, if you don't see a group, you can create one!
