Food & Travel: Dinner At Invitation V

By G J @myfavesjournal

When it comes to food, being both picky and vegan, whenever I travel I prepare for the worst. With a case of protein bars and oatmeal as my trusty travel companions, I am constantly on the lookout for the next vegan-friendly restaurant. Needless to say, when out and about in my native and lovely NYC, I leave my travel companions at home! In what can only be described as the understatement of the year by someone with an uncanny knack for stating the obvious, NYC was recently named Most Vegan-Friendly City in America. ‎I’ve been told by my non-New Yorker friends that NYC cuisine has spoiled me. Truer words…I’ve done a fair amount of travel and I can say there are few places in the world that can hold a candle to NYC (with NYC’s Candle Cafe/Candle79 serving as prime example).

My recent extended travels to Montreal have done little to dispel my disenchantment with non-NYC vegan offerings. Finding a vegan restaurant to satisfy this picky vegan, let alone one nice enough to celebrate a special occasion, has proven quite difficult. That is, until I discovered Montreal’s vegan crown jewel, Invitation V! The menu is entirely vegan, gluten-free friendly, and focuses on healthy, hearty, gourmet food. The bright ambiance and upscale atmosphere, not to mention the espresso bar and vegan wine and champagne selections, set this elegant bistro apart from the mediocrity of conventional and uninspired fare of sprouts, eggplant and tofu that epitomize most other vegan locales.

My friends and I went for the savory Onion Soup topped with garlic crouton &  Daiya cheese, melt in your mouth Brown Rice Spaghetti with Tempeh, and delicious Homemade Thin Crust Pizza with organic vegetables and Daiya cheese. Oh yeah, let’s not forget the Vegan Tempeh burger with scrumptious Sweet Potato Fries. As for brunch, you must try the Vegan Omelet with Hollandaise sauce.

Since I’m always on the road, I would love it if you could share your favorite vegetarian/vegan restaurant in your city with me :).
