Sundays are all about relaxation and let's face it slaving over a hot stove to make a Sunday roast isn't my idea of fun! We joined a gaggle of bloggers to try out the newly launched Sunday Roast sharing menu.
The menu sounded delicious, succulent chicken, stuffed with mushroom and thyme, Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roast potatoes, root veggies, broccoli, Kintyre cheddar cauliflower cheese served with gravy and/or garlic and parsley sauce (both are brought to the table).
Each roasted chicken serves a minimum of four with the meat carved at the table for you, or you can carve it yourself. It's then a free-for-all helping yourself to the plethora of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and scrumptious roast potatoes.
The bird is a big chicken so has a lot more meat than your typical supermarket chicken. We all got a bit of leg and breast each (oo-er!).
I'm a huge cauliflower cheese fan, and the cheese sauce was stunning. Thick sauce made with a mature cheddar and cooked with just the right amount of tenderness.
It was a struggle not to sit and pick at the chicken, or finish off the roast potatoes but there was plenty of food should you want second helpings. Between us we couldn't finish everything as we had to leave room for dessert...
Which was a retro-tastic baked Alaska - gooey meringue covered ice-cream surrounded with jam and sponge. This is something we haven't come across on a restaurant menu for a long time, perhaps because some people think it should be consigned to the 70's or 80's.
But it was wonderful and we could safely have eaten a whole pudding; it looked that inviting!
Suitably filled with sugar it was time to head home and have a post Sunday lunch nap.
The Sunday lunch menu is priced at £100 for four people and is available between 12 noon and 4pm every Sunday from 4th June. If you have a party bigger than 4 but less than 8 then you can share one chicken between the table and pay a supplement for additional veg, which makes this an attractive offer as there is a lot of chicken - we couldn't finish it yet we're all gannets!

Disclaimer: Fred says his hoomins were treated to a roast on the house but even he reckons this is a good deal even though he's a cat and has no money nor can he make his way to Blythswood unaided but he was totally salivating when we showed him the pics! Meow.
