Almost a perfect 10!

This was our second visit to Number 10, but I wonder how many people in the area actually know it's here, or know that it isn't just for weddings or tourists staying over. It's located at the Crosshill-end of the beautiful Queen's Drive, less than a 5 minute walk from Crosshill train station.

The same waiter from our last visit recognised us - a positive sign I hope! Well, he made a welcome wine recommendation straight away. The house wines are all from Short Mile Bay in Australia and he suggested the Shiraz, which is softer with a nicer mouthfeel and finish, over the Merlot. And we can confirm that as we had the Merlot last time!

In addition to these two reds by the glass, they also do a Sauvignon Blanc, which we've also had before and is rather nice if you enjoy whites from the Marlborough region.

Menu

A seasonal market menu and a la carte were both available when we visited.

Food

Sometimes you just need a comforting bowl of soup and this was a big portion with a good consistency. Came with toasted, rather than soft bread and spreadable butter.

Mrs Foodie picked a vegetarian option: the chilli and coriander vegetable tempura served with dipping sauces of sweet chilli and soy sauce. A well-cooked flavoursome mix of vegetables with a satisfying crunch from the tempura and a choice of dipping sauces.

Moderately spicy Thai curry served with rice and naan bread. A creamy sauce with big chunks of red pepper, onion and mushroom, this was a filling main and another recommended veggie choice.

Tender chicken filled with chorizo and red pepper, Lyonnaise potatoes, Mediterranean vegetables and tarragon jus. Nice flavour from the tarragon, delicious potatoes and a mild but meaty chorizo.

Sticky toffee pudding (£4.95)

A generous portion, big enough for two. Lots of noticeable date flavour in here, rather than just sugar. Moist sponge and not too stodgy.

It may look like the same dessert as above but this was definitely different! Pistachio ice cream, creamy, with the aroma of almond and a taste like Battenberg cake, a tasty surprise!

Overall

Number 10 hotel pleasantly surprised us on our first visit and did so again on our second visit. The bar/restaurant is small but welcoming and certainly isn't just for guests staying over, in fact there was relaxed chatter between guests and regulars on different tables during this visit.

Hotels have a reputation for being expensive but we found the prices to be very reasonable and the menu has plenty of choice with a number of vegetarian options so it should keep most people happy. Cooking is homely with dishes sure to suit along the families

Strathbungo might be the current area to head to for food in the south side so it's great to have options at the other end of Queen's Park. Due to its location away from a main road and primary business as a hotel I'd say that this makes the restaurant a hidden gem. A hidden gem inside a beautiful Victorian building in a quiet residential area overlooking the greenery of a park.
Both male and female toilets were checked and were very clean.

TL;DR

+ Inexpensive prices for the big portions
+ Nice house wine
+ Lots of choice (a number of vegetarian options)
+ Friendly service

- Would've liked soft bread with the soup
