Flowers and herbs to help anxiety

Nature has a wonderful way of helping soothe a number of our ailments. Plants and flowers, when used properly, have powerful medicinal properties from which everyone can benefit. Anxiety is something that many of us deal with on a regular basis. Whether due to work stress, trouble at home, or other circumstances, anxiety can have devastating effects if not treated. Here are a few herbs and flowers that contain anti-anxiety properties.

Peppermint

Peppermint has often been used to soothe stomachs but it also has the ability to help reduce stress and anxiety. According to studies, if you rub some peppermint oil to the affected area, it can actually help relieve a tension headache.

Lavender

This is a well-known stress relieving flower and it can be used in many different forms. Lavender oil can be used in lotions, baths, or even on your pillow to help you sleep at night. The flowers can be used to make a relaxing and calming tea and you can even use the flowers to decorate your home. Best of all, lavender helps you relax but it does not make you drowsy. So you need not worry about such a side effect.

Licorice Root

If you are experiencing stress or chronic fatigue or you simply want to boost your energy levels, consider this root. The compounds in licorice root help cortisol (our body's natural stress-fighting hormone) function more effectively. Serve as a tea and enjoy the flavour and health benefits.

Passion Flower

Great for relieving stress and anxiety, the passion flower can cause mild drowsiness. It might be best to ask your doctor about the best way for you to use this herb due to its sedative effect. One popular option is to look for passion flower soap. It is soothing and you don't need to worry about major sleepiness since you're only using a small amount at a time.

Remember, your environment can also play a huge role in your stress levels. Decorate your home and office with fresh flowers and potted plants for a beautiful and natural incentive to smile!
