The probability is that the gubernatorial race in Florida in 2014 will feature former governor Charlie Crist (a moderate who has switched to the Democratic Party, and leads other possible Democrats by a wide margin) against current governor (and GOP teabagger) Rick Scott. That would not be a good match-up for Scott.Currently, Crist leads Scott in a head-to-head match-up (47% to 40%). About 53% of voters say Scott doesn't deserve to be re-elected, while only 37% say he does. In addition, more voters disapprove of the way Scott is handling the job as governor than approve, while a majority of voters approved of the job Crist did while governor. This means that unless something unexpected happens in the next few months, it looks like Rick Scott will be a one-term governor -- and that's a very good thing for the people of Florida.
The information above is from the latest Quinnipiac University Poll (conducted between November 12th and 17th of 1,646 registered voters in the state of Florida, with a margin of error of 2.4 points).
The poll also had some interesting results on the issue of legalizing marijuana -- an issue that has not been too popular in Florida (and other Southern states) in the past. Things are changing fast across the nation though, and legalizing marijuana for medical purposes now has overwhelming support in Florida. Legalizing pot for recreational use has also gained support -- with 48% supporting that and 46% opposing it. That's within the margin of error, and means the issue of recreational use is dead even in Florida now.
