Fish Drive

By Travellingartist @devtramp

Inle Lake, Myanmar / September 2016. Aside from the Inle fishermen's unique way of paddling using their foot, I also discovered one of their unique ways of catching fish. The fishermen work in small groups. They set a net on the lake in a long concave shape, then with a dozen meters between them and starting from some hundred meters from the net they have set-up, they hit the water's surface with their paddles every few meters as they move towards the trap and the fine nets will do the rest. They pull the net out of the water, and collect the fish that got tangled in the fine mesh. The technique appears to work as these fishermen are still using it to this day.
