You'll have to excuse me if tonights post is somewhat lacking in substance as I am currently knackered, having just come from a geography controlled assessment that lasted all day and having next to no sleep the night before. I swear, right now if I have to work out another average about vehicle movements in the CBD and Outer Suburbs, well ... I don't even want to contemplate what I might do ...
Anyway, enough about that, what I wanted to show you were these firework cupcakes that I baked for a bonfire and fireworks party that I went to at the weekend. I thought it still might be worth showing you though as I know that a lot of the festivities are going on this weekend instead of last. Now, I'm not going to lie, these are one of the more difficult bakes that I have attempted (in fact, they took me two attempts, but lets not tell anyone that, heh?). I used my standard chocolate cupcake recipe and frosting (which can be found here) and then melted sugar to form caramel and shaped it into vaguely catherine wheel type shapes. To finish them off I wedged the 'firework' into the cake and sprinkled popping candy and honeycomb chunks on top to create a pop in your mouth too.
What do you think of these, will you try them?
