Find New Glass Extension Inspiration From Fit Show ‘Installation of the Year’

Industry competition showcases the best glass installations

The FIT Show ‘Installation of the Year competition showcases the UK’s best-glazed installations – perfect if you’re looking for inspiration for your own home.

Conservatories remain one of the most popular UK home improvement projects. And with their ability to provide additional space and increase a property’s value for a relatively small initial outlay, it’s easy to see why conservatories remain a firm favorite with British homeowners.

Glass extensions

Today’s conservatories are a far cry from the standard structures of old, and homeowners now have a whole range of different options to choose from. In particular, pioneering design and advances in modern glazing technology have led to the emergence of structures that operate more like glass extensions than traditional conservatories.

Incorporating elements such as sliding walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, bi-fold doors and retractable roofs, a glass extension can create a light, bright and airy space that makes a bold and contemporary style statement. And with features such as energy efficient glass, reflective coatings and in-built solar blinds, you can create a space that is comfortable as well as stylish.

Find inspiration

If a glass extension sounds appealing to you but you’re not sure how this might work with your home, why not take some inspiration from the FIT Show ‘Installation of the Year’ entries?

The ‘Installation of the Year’ competition celebrates the best glazed installations the fabrication and installation industry has to offer, from balustrades and facades through to conservatories and bi-fold doors. The competition was launched in 2017 as part of the FIT Show – the biggest trade show event for fabricators and installers – and while the trade show takes place every two years, the competition has proven so popular that the organisers decided to make it an annual event.

The competition covers two categories – commercial and residential – and entries are made via Twitter over a six month period. To enter, companies have to submit a photo of their installation to @FITshow along with a short project description, and indicate which category they are entering by using either the #commercial or #residential hashtag.

A judging panel made up of industry experts chooses two winners each month (one in each category), and each of these winning entries goes on to the grand final where a public vote decides the overall winners of the ‘Installation of the Year’ competition. The results will be announced at the FIT Show 2019 gala dinner, and the winners will be awarded a trophy and a stay at a golf / spa hotel. The winner of last year’s competition was Nordic Installations, which took the title for its stylish, bespoke new-build in Devonshire.

Last year the competition attracted more than 1000 entries and organisers are expecting to exceed that number this year, so you are sure to find some examples that can provide you with ideas for your own glass extension. You can view the entries on the FIT Show website, which will showcase each month’s entries, or on the @FITshow Twitter feed.

Building a glass extension is a great way to add interest and value to your property, and by taking inspiration from the best the industry has to offer, you can be sure that your home stands out for all the right reasons.
