No matter where we are traveling to, GPS enabled smartphones have made finding directions to our destinations very easy. But what if your smartphone fails to connect to the net? Or what about those who don’t have a smartphone and no way to use GPS?
Well, Vavia Technologies recently launched a solution that enables people to get directions to their destination by just sending an SMS. With that, Vavia Technologies also launched the service that enables users to send email to any email address through normal SMS.
Vavia Technologies provides mobility and internet solution across countries in the Indian sub-continent, South East Asia and Middle East. Their service called txtBrowser is an innovative and popular service that allows users to search any information without internet connection. The txtbrowser also has a collection of location based apps built into it like Jokes, Getprice, Chat etc.

To Receive Directions on SMS:
To receive directions using SMS, you need to send an SMS to 55444. The SMS must follow the specified format which is directions ‘starting point name’ to ‘destination name’.
For example, type – directions Saket to Mehrauli and send this SMS to 55444. In response to this SMS, you will get the estimated distance between the starting point and destination, the expected time it will take to reach the destination and turn by turn navigation directions.
I personally tried this and was pleasantly surprised to get an almost instant response of my SMS.The SMS I received contained the total distance, expected time and a few turn by turn directions for the beginning part of the journey. After that, there were instructions of further actions the user might take, including sending response SMS to receive the next page of the directions.
Yes, that means that if your destination is far off, you will probably need to send several messages to receive the entire set of directions. However, since the cost per SMS deducted was Rs. 1: 50, it would still cost you less than traveling for miles in the wrong direction, if lost on way.
Send Email on SMS:
Sending an email through SMS is also very simple. The number to remember for this service is the same – 55444. And the specified format of SMS is : Reciepient’s email ID message
