Fat Fook: A Taste of Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Filipinos. If you take a look at your Facebook feed, pretty sure you will find a post or two from your friends about their recent Taipei trip. The reason why more and more Filipinos visit Taiwan is to experience their wonderful sights and of course, food!

No surprise there because Taiwan is one of the top culinary destinations in Asia. In fact, in Taipei alone you will find 20 streets dedicated to snacking. ( Check out FoodieViwsPH - Charlie's Taipei food trip here and here) There's also Tainan, the Culinary Center of Taiwan.

But if you're not yet ready to travel no worries because you can taste Taiwan right here in the metro. Rachel Kao, Ramen Nagi group's executive chef who was born in Taiwan and grew up in the Philippines started a homegrown concept called Fat Fook.

Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen

Even from afar, Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen's exterior will never fail to catch your eye. When you enter, you will be more amazed because they have plates and bowls as part of the decor. Literally! Check out their wall decors and lights! They're really a fun sight.

When it comes to service, I must say their staff is friendly and attentive. It wasn't difficult to order because they're very helpful. Now unto the food! Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen offers authentic Taiwanese cuisine.

With dishes such as Fried Squid, Spicy Century Egg, Spicy Pork Ears, Taiwanese Sausage, Fried Stinky Tofu, Xiao Long Bao and Pork Fried Buns, diners are literally taken on a Taiwanese food trip. For our first visit at Fat Fook Taiwanese Kitchen, I ordered the following which I, of course shared with my family.

Steamed Xiao Long Bao

Eating Xiao Long Bao, a scrumptious soup dumpling (and truthfully a favorite of many) is the perfect way to start a meal. Imagine the soup as it bursts out and then you're introduced to the hidden tasty flavors.

Fried Intestine

This may remind you of isaw but it tastes different in a good way. It's delicious and not too oily.

Stir Fried Eggplant

I love veggies especially eggplant. Choosing Fat Fook's Stir Fried Eggplant was a good decision. It's really good and perfect for the whole family. The only problem here is it's too oily. I think lessening the oil won't affect the flavor at all.

Fried Porkchop

Since we already have veggies, I opted for some beautiful, golden brown porkshop. Each strip is tender and juicy!

Taiwan Style Fried Rice

I really love their Taiwan Style Fried Rice because flavors blend perfectly. Sadly, it's too oily. 😦

Honey Lemon Juice

For drinks, I wanted to try their Wintermelon Milk Tea. Unfortunately, they're not available so Honey Lemon Juice it is! We were not disappointed. It's refreshing and super lemony.

From all the dishes we tried, I would definitely come back for the Steamed Xiao Long Bao and Taiwan Style Fried Rice. Plus, I would also like try their milk tea, Taiwanese Sausage, and Fried Stinky Tofu.
