“Exploring Foul Rules for NBA Summer League 2023: What to Know Before the Game?”

Posted on the 06 July 2023 by Makably

Brandon Miller is making waves in the 2023 NBA Summer League, but it’s not just for his skill on the court. The rookie center has already racked up an impressive 15 personal fouls in two games, leaving people scratching their heads over why he hasn’t been disqualified outright. But how do fouls work in the Summer League?

Unlike regulation NBA games, the Summer League has a higher limit of 10 fouls allowed before disqualification. There are a few possible explanations for this unusual policy change. For one, referees in the Summer League may tend to be inexperienced and less lenient when calling contact. Secondly, with longer playing times, summer league coaches are given more opportunities to assess their player’s performance against high-level competition.

Whatever the case may be, Brandon Miller has certainly been making his presence felt on and off the court so far in the 2023 Summer League!

Brandon Miller, the second overall pick of the 2023 NBA draft, is off to a rough start. In his debut game during the Summer League, Miller was penalized seven times for personal fouls, but still managed to contribute 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. Unfortunately, in his next game, Miller’s personal fouls were even worse: eight times in total and only six points on the board. He did have seven assists, but 15 fouls in two games is not something you’d expect from the highly anticipated number two selection.

Miller will get his chance at redemption soon enough when the Hornets face the San Antonio Spurs, LA Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans in the Las Vegas Summer League. Can he turn things around? Only time will tell.
