Several brands have recently launched new or updated versions of super serums and I’ve been exploring some of them. Among them is the new Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II by Estée Lauder.
I’m not entirely new to Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair (ANR) – I tried it out many years ago in my mid-twenties when I first started exploring skincare seriously. It was and has remained a cult favourite – the “little brown bottle” as it is fondly referred to, is a proud recipient of rave reviews in magazines and beauty forums.
The Advanced Night Repair has been revolutionised following Estée Lauder’s research into night time skin purification and renewal – the concept of precise synchronisation is combined with cellular purification to help skin maximise the nature nightly repair.
Catabolysis – it is the activity that helps skin eliminate internal debris that can cause cellular damage and thus optimises cellular performance and helps increase skin’s overall repair. This process peaks in cells at night. Unfortunately, the efficiency of this natural nightly activity declines as we age – this is why practically every anti-aging product range will include a night treatment.
With this in mind, Estée Lauder has updated it’s award-winning formula by combining potent purifying and synchronising technologies:
- Catabolysis Technology (Purifying) – a complex of active ingredients that includes ALGAE and YEAST extracts that are proven to help skin cells increase their natural Catabolysis activity for optimal nightly skin repair
- Chronolux Technology (Synchronizing) – a patented clock gene technology that takes into consideration the skin’s natural 24 hour circadian rhythm and supports the natural synchronization of the daily night time repair process so that skin repairs itself at exactly the right time.
The Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II delivers:
- Anti-Pollution Technology – it contains Alkyl Guanine Transferase (AGT) to reduce the appearance of visible damage caused by major environmental assaults like ozone, pollution and UV rays.
- Daily Prevention cocktail – ANR II contains a powerful blend of anti-oxidants to help neutralise up to 90% of free radicals before they damage skin’s appearance.

The formula is oil and fragrance free, non-acnegenic (it won’t cause pimples or acne), dermatologist and opthalmologist tested. Clinical tests showed that continuous use of Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II slowed down the appearance of premature aging, reduces appearance of lines and wrinkles and improves the appearance of skin radiance and even skintone.
Let’s take a closer look at ANR II.
It comes packaged in a oblong-shaped semi-opaque glass flacon. You dispense the product via a dropper – Estée Lauder recommends dispensing a couple of drops of serum onto your fingertips and applying it in a heart-shaped motion starting from the centre of the face and outwards towards the temples, ears and chin.
From the photo above, you can tell that the product has a fluid texture.It feels very silky and a little cool when in contact with skin. The milky nude-coloured serum spreads very easily and really does absorb well into skin – there is no sticky feeling whatsoever. The texture makes it perfect to prep skin before applying moisturiser – you never get that heavy, layered feeling.
I took my time trying out the serums in my stash – I used them exclusively for at least 3-4 weeks at a time so I could see how they felt on my skin. With Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, I took about 4 weeks with it. I really like the texture and the way it feels on skin. I’m in my early 30s so wrinkles are not rampant so I can’t comment on the anti-wrinkle claims of the product. However, I can attest to smoother and more hydrated skin – my skin feels very very smooth. I shall say it – I think my skin looks nice now (nicer than before) and I can’t specifically say what or where but it just looks and feels better.
I’m not entirely sure if it’s related but I have noticed a significant decrease in bumps and breakouts too – I usually get tiny bumps around my chin and neck and I sometimes breakout from depilating (eyebrows and upper lip) but it hasn’t quite happened since I started an exclusive and daily bout of ANR II. I’ll confess, some nights I plop into bed forgetting to apply skincare (which is ridiculous seeing how much I actually have) and I hastily reach out to the bedside table and smooth some ANR II on and don’t even follow up with moisturiser (bad. I know). Come morning, skin still looks happy, not overly greasy and not dry either. Simple, fuss-free and I think it delivers. It might be a while before I run out of a skincare serum but when it is time to purchase a daily anti-aging one, it’s going to be Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II.
*Is there a whitening one available? Then that would save me money, ya?*
