Employee Appreciation Day: Little Known Ways to Recognize Your Employees

Posted on the 07 March 2014 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

Happy Employee Appreciation Day! Today is a great day to show your best and brightest employees how grateful you are for them. After all, without them it would be just you running the show!  Employee recognition programs can be helpful in keeping employees satisfied and motivated. A solid program can help add to a positive and teamwork-oriented company culture.

Here are 4 employee recognition ideas to implement at your company:

Institute an Employee of the Month

Enable employees to nominate their peers for employee of the month. Whether it is done through a point system or through simple nominations, people find satisfaction when recognized by their peers. The employee of the month could receive a special privilege, such as a parking spot, and should be recognized company-wide.

Provide Incentives for Goals

Chances are your employees already have monthly, quarterly, or annual goals. Adding an incentive to achieving goals helps to show employees that you care about their professional success. Incentives could be anything from bonus packages, gift cards, a casual dress day or a free lunch. Fleetmatics employees go crazy for branded swag such as sweatshirts, beer mugs, coffee tumblers, and more!

Recognize Long-Term Employees

In some companies, turnover can be exceptionally high. One employee recognition idea is to call out long-term employees on their anniversaries and thank them for their service to your business. If an employee has been at a company for years, it is probably because they are an integral part of the success of the business. Show these loyal employees how much you appreciate them so they continue to help your business run smoothly.

Encourage Customer Recognition

Allow your customers to nominate technicians or employees when they provide exceptional service. For example, Peapod has a driver recognition program called Peapod Pros. Customers are able to submit their local driver to be recognized as a “pro” on the company’s Facebook page. Including customers in employee recognition programs also allows your business to gather valuable customer feedback as well.

Recognizing employees is not only important on Employee Appreciation Day, but throughout the year. Have you implemented any ideas for employee recognition at your business? Tell us in the comments.
