With changing lifestyles, increasing complexities, and excelling online interactions, the importance of emotional intelligence has become a prime in everyone's life. Few recent incidents are clear examples of this. An IAS aspirant somewhere from South India, living in Delhi decided to finish his life for a very simple reason with no fault of his. The reason was that being not very conversant with Delhi, he reached wrong center for his Prelim exams. When told that the actual center where he has to appear for the exam is somewhere in the close vicinity, he rushed towards it. Just because he was a few minutes late to report at his actual center, he was denied to sit for the exam. Disheartened, he came back to his room and hanged from the ceiling fan thus finishing his life. Just in a spur of moment he took a wrong decision.

It was merely a question of one more year. Was it family pressure? Was it peer pressure? Or it was some other reason? Whatever it was, he lost his emotional balance at that moment of time. Another example is of an army officer killing another army officer's wife because he fell in love with her, and she disapproved it being married already. Is it something related only to the newer generation? The answer is no. Even the aged people lack emotional balance and take momentarily wrong decisions that impart big impacts on their life. Daniel Goleman, since 1995 has been conducting various research works on Emotional Intelligence. He has been speaking globally about the importance of it. As a matter of fact, in today's environment, Emotional Intelligence (EI) is something that matters more than Intelligence Quotient (IQ). The basic fact is we have moved away from self-awareness.

The deeper is the self-awareness, the more we get self-managed. That automatically builds emotional balance. Subsequently, it leads to a better build and maintain relationships. That is perhaps, everybody needs in life.
