EE Announces 4G Live Date

EE, owners of Orange and T-Mobile and formerly known as Everything Everywhere, have announced the launch date for their 4G network as October 30th. The date will also see the official rebrand to EE become official.

EE currently have exclusivity on 4G, with Three, O2 and Vodaphone looking to launch their super-fast mobile networks around the end of summer 2013 following an agreement announced yesterday that puts all legal challenges to the exclusivity to one side.

There are currently only four mobile handsets that will support 4G – the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, HTC One XL and the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE – also announced by EE. Expect more to join over the next few months.

Customers on Orange and T-Mobile will be offered the chance to switch to 4G as soon as it becomes available, though frustratingly there is no word on tariffs as yet.

There is also the question of coverage. We covered how EE planned to roll out the network last month, but there’s nothing to say they’ll be sticking to that plan as yet.

More to come when we know it.
