Dmitri Mendeleev -Creator of Periodic Table and also created the Russian Chemical Society.

Anyone who has ever taken Chemistry has studied the periodic table. Most people who have memorized the elements on the Periodic Table have probably not given any thought to who might have created it. In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev published the very first periodic table. Although there were a few people who attempted to create a period table, none of these tables were as effective as Mendleev's version. Dmitri Mendeleev was born at Tobolsk, Siberia in 1834 and died in 1907.

Mendeleev studied science at St. Petersburg and graduated in 1856. In 1863 Mendeleev was appointed to a professorship and in 1866 he succeeded to the Chair in the University. Mendeleev is best known for his work on the periodic table; arranging the 63 known elements into a Periodic Table based on atomic mass, which he published in Principles of Chemistry in 1869. His first Periodic Table was compiled on the basis of arranging the elements in ascending order of atomic weight and grouping them by similarity of properties. He predicted the existence and properties of new elements and pointed out accepted atomic weights that were in error. This organization surpassed attempts at classification by Beguyer de Chancourtois and Newlands and was published a year before the work of Lothar Meyer. During January of 1907, Mendeleev fell ill from influenza and succumbed to it on Sunday, January 20,1907, just 6 days before he'd have turned 73. His students carried around some large copies of the Periodic Table to honor their beloved teacher. Mendeleev was interred at Literatorskie Mostki Saint Petersburg Cemetery, part of Volkovskoye Memorial Cemetery. Since his death even though he wasn't accepted as a student when he applied in Moscow, they honored him with D. Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. A chemist developed a synthetic chemical was named mendelevium, with the initials md. In Russia, outstanding sceintists have won the Mendeleev Golden Medal since 1998. Finally, there's a large lunar crater called Mendeleev, located on the far side of the moon.
