motorcycle accidentA 27-year old man was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday morning in Cedar Hill on Highway B.  According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 27 year-old rear ended the dump truck driven by a 44 year old man of Rolla, Missouri around 5:40 a.m.. Police say the dump truck drove away from the scene but police caught up with the truck on Highway 20 just north of where the accident occurred.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.  There are a number of causes for motorcycle accidents as the weather continues to improve, more and more motorcycles will be on the highways and interstates.  March is the official beginning of motorcycle season in Missouri and Illinois.

At this time, it is unknown what caused the motorcycle accident Sunday morning involving the Dittmer man.

Motorcycles and motorbikes can be very dangerous even for the most safe riders.  A motorcycle lacks the impact-absorbing structure and restraints like that of other passenger vehicles.  This means motorcycle riders have a far greater chance of being seriously injured or killed when a crash does occur.

Thousands of Motorcycle Riders Will Be on the Roadways as Spring Approaches

Hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riders in Missouri and Illinois face the very frightening reality of a possible crash. Missouri has 148,000 registered motorcycles and 342,000 licensed riders while Illinois has 200,000 registered motorcycles and 558,00 licensed motorcyclists.  Every motorcyclist in Missouri and Illinois is at risk of suffering a serious motorcycle accident when they get out on the roadways.  Since motorcycles are so much smaller than most passenger vehicles, other drivers often find motorcyclists hard to see. Drunk, careless or distracted drivers are at an even greater risk of not seeing a motorcyclist.

In a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, the laws of physics work against the motorcyclist.  The consequences of a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle can result in a myriad of injuries including:  severe bone fractures, head injuries, neck and spine injuries, paralysis, serious internal injuries, catastrophic injuries and road burns.  Traumatic brain injuries are all too common as a result of motorcycle accidents and one of the most devastating of injuries.

At The Cagle Law Firm, we frequently represent seriously injured motorcycle accident victims or the families of motorcycle fatalities in personal injury or wrongful death cases.  Motorcyclists have every right to be on the highways and interstates and be safe.  If you have been involved in a motorcycle accident where someone was possibly negligent, meaning they were distracted or were driving carelessly, you may need legal assistance.  Some people think that motorcyclists by nature are risk takers and care less about their own well-being, but that is not a truth.
